Bring on Fall Sewing!

As the dog days of summer wind down we're gearing up for the fall sewing season at the sewing center. We've got a lot of fall projects planned and we're sewing up the samples like our elegant in the hoop clutches that we've been embroidering this month.

We've also combed the net this week to bring you a few ideas and inspiration to get those creative juices going. Don't miss our Pinterest page and like us on Facebook so you won't miss out on any of the news and projects that we will be bringing to you this fall:

Time to get out those scraps and head over to this blog to get the scoop on how to make a pretty little round trivet. I could use a draw full of these myself---you can never have enough trivets. I envision making some in holiday colors and some in the orange and russets to match fall leaves. They would certainly make great hostess gifts or even a little something for that desk mate at work.

There's plenty of inspiration over at the Husqvarna Viking site.
How about a free plan for a fall shawl---perfect for those chilly nights?  Fringed with embroidery thread, this project is simple, elegant and fun! Best of all, it uses the scraps up from previous projects. Make a couple in fall colors.

It's back to school time and if your student is going with an e-reader there's a really easy e-reader case on the Singer.com site. The complete project plans can be downloaded. This project would also make an excellent Christmas gift if you're getting started early this year.

If you're looking for more inspiration don't forget our Toolin' Around Two Event on Friday August 23, 2013. We will have a lot of ideas, inspiration, tips, and tools to make all your fall projects shine. Advanced registration is required and space is going fast---be sure to call today!

And while you're in the store visit our notions and pattern department. We've been getting new fall and holiday items in daily!

Spooky Halloween Sewing Projects

Last year  seven tiny teenagers descended on a local fabric store to hunt fabric for Halloween Costumes. The seven had a ballerina costume in mind and wanted tulle and patterns to make matchhing tutu's. What a lovely picture they would make, all in different colors, tiny ballerina's to the Halloween Party. The only problem standing in their way was that they couldn't get any advice at the fabric store.

You will always find a lot of friendly advice at Northwest Indiana Sewing Centers. Whether you're in Merrillville or Highland, we have a knowledgeable staff to answer questions and provide the tools you need to have a great holiday season. We have classes, like our Pumpkin Patch Tablerunner that teaches applique and we have unique designs like the Anita Goodesign Halloween Quilt full of fun ideas that could be used for pillows, treatbags, aprons, or costumes.

And if the tiny ballerinas needed advice on how much and what fabric to buy and how to best sew their tutu's, we'd be right there with help to make their Halloween a treat.

We've scoured the net and here are some Halloween project ideas we like for home decorating, costumes, and parties. Have a spooky time sewing for Halloween!

And for more inspiration come by the store where we'll be getting together to sew up ghouls, ghosts, and goblins for a spooky Halloween.

Sew Fun at Northwest Indiana Sewing Center

Northwest Indiana Sewing Center looks like Santa's workshop today as the busy sewing ladies put the finishing touches of embroidery and quilting on projects of all types.

Everyone is completing projects started at previous classes so this is called a "Mudd Day" where everyone finishes up under the gentle guidance of instructor, Janice.

There are a couple of Tea Quilts being worked on and even though the same embroidery patterns are used the results couldn't be more unique and individual when the ladies add their special colors, fabric, and personality to the projects.

Floral Quilt
There are gorgeous floral quilts being embroidered in burgundies and violets that will bring gardens inside for the winter and keep loved ones warm.

The true elves are working on Advent calendars.

Cindi's is coming along in spite of some technical difficulties earlier in the week at home. Cindi plans to donate her work to the St. Mary's Hospital fund. Last year volunteers raised thousands of dollars for new equipment for the hospital from donations like Cindi's masterpiece.

Barb's advent calendar was a little further ahead and just as stunning:

And projects were at every stage imaginable; some were being quilted instead of embroidered today:

Almost finished quilt square; very elegant!

And best of all, everyone had help with advice, supplies, and stitch removal when boo boo's arose (no pictures of those and I'm not telling who!)

The Northwest Sewing Center is all decked out for Christmas, and has a full schedule of classes planned just like the fun projects seen here. The machines available do the sewing for you, leaving you to be creative and sit back and receive the laurels; just like all the ladies today.

Sample of the Machines available just in case Santa stops by

So tell your Santa that you need a new Sewing Machine, accessories, or a couple of classes as stocking stuffers for Christmas this year and stop by and see all the beautiful things that you can do with a new machine.

The next class project is of Santa himself:

Isn't this beautiful? And so easy too

Join the fun and have a Sew Merry Christmas!
