Put a Pocket in your Beach Towel!

Add a bit of embroidery to the corner of a towel and don't worry about the back when you back the embroidery with a handy pocket for keys, some change; even a small bottle of sunblock for the beach!

This project is so easy. Just two squares of fabric. Add a zipper to one, and stitch it to the towel and voila---a handy pocket! This towel would also be great for camping kids (and adults!)

Passing Sewing on to a New Generation

This weekend the manager of our Highland, Indiana store, Joan, had the opportunity to spend some quality time with her two Granddaughters, Stella and Josephine. Joan asked the girls how they'd like to spend Sunday afternoon and, knowing about the fun that waited in Joan's sewing room, the girls decided they wanted to spend an afternoon sewing.

Selecting some colorful charm packs, the girls went to work on some brilliant quilt tops. And with Joan's help, the tops were soon complete!

But the day was still young and the quilts weren't complete so Joan and the girls got busy finishing the quilts and a couple of hours later:

How lovely! And what a good job those girls, who are seven and nine years old, did!  What a fun way to spend an afternoon, that will be remembered for many years to come.

Making a Bunny Easter Basket

This weekend I took our Sewing Center's pattern for a Catch a Thread Pincushion and amended it to create an Easter basket.

I enlarged the bag part to 25 1/2 x 11, machine embroidered a face,  and added ears and a handle in place of the pincushion.

I plan to fill the basket with all kinds of homemade goodies. I'm even thinking of a soft fabric book for the baby.

If you would like a complete set of instructions for the Easter bunny basket, contact the Sewing Center here. If you have an idea or project to share for goodies to put into the Easter basket post it to our Facebook page for Highland or Merrillville. We'd love to have you share your projects with us!
