Still Time to Sew Something Spectacular for the Fourth!
Hard to believe that the fourth of July is almost here; it seems like summer just got here! (Actually it only arrived yesterday.) But just because the fourth is just two weeks away doesn't mean you don't have time to create projects to dazzle your guests. It's too hot to be outdoors in the afternoon anyway or while the kids (or grandkids) are down for their naps break out that sewing machine and try these fast and easy projects that are fun and rewarding:
- Instead of going with the same old tees that everyone else will be sporting at the parade make your family feel special with a design that you create using your embroidery machine. We've got a lot of designs in the store like the one up above. We made this one in the hoop and added some sparklies to give it shine. Don't have an embroidery machine? No problem, try this really cute idea click here.
- Then you'll need a table topper or two or three for that after the parade picnic. We've got in the hoop designs to help you there too.
- Then there's that quilt to sit on and watch those fireworks. There is still time to get a small quilt done and we have so many great designs to chose from. So come on in and take a look, grab your red, white, and blue thread, and create a memorable fourth to show your family just how special they are to you.

Notable Notions
The right tool for the job makes everything easier and more fun and this weeks notion of note makes applique easy, easy, easy.
Whether you applique in the hoop, on a general purpose sewing machine, or by hand you'll want to grab a pair of these Multi-angled 4" Scissors with blunt tips made just for getting as close to the applique holding stitch as possible.
Lose those little nubbies that make your applique less than perfect, hurry into the sewing center and grab a pair for just $12.95.

Merrillville Sewing Center is making a Picnic
We are so excited to be offering this quilting class---the Picnic Quilt. Look how original, bright, and, well, picnic-y it is. Makes you want to pack that basket full of cold chicken, potato salad, and soda's up and set it all up on this quilt at the park to view the 4th of July festivities.
Jan will assist everyone who is interested in getting this quilt done for the fourth. There are some interesting new techniques---making the chicken legs is like magic.
There is a class being held on Saturday, June 16th between 8:00 A.M. and 2:00 P.M. Call Jan at the sewing center today and reserve your spot. This one is so much fun!

Quilts Presented to Hospice
Last Friday the Highland Sewing Center presented the first batch of quilts to the hospice in our sewing for a cause benefit.
Alan Risberg on the right, the owner of Highland Sewing Center provided the space, materials, and in some cases the sewing equipment. The ladies, customers and employees of the sewing center, provided the sewing expertise under manager Joan's gentle tutledge. (Joan is on the left answering the telephone.)
We've been quilting for the hospice for a couple of months now and this coming Thursday morning we'll be gathering together for more quilting fun. Bring your sewing machine and sewing kit---the center has all the fabric and supplies ready. You'll learn new quilting skills for free at the same time you'll be feeling good about giving your time sewing for families in need of comfort.
In other news at Highland Sewing Center there are two applique quilt blocks this month and there are some real beauties. Just look at these blocks:

Notion of Note
This week's notion of note is Inspira Stabilizer. If you've used others, you will notice immediately that Inspira is consistantly higher quality, making it the brand you'll want to reach for for that machine embroidery. Nothing prevents puckering like the right high quality stabilizer.
And right now, for a limited time, all in stock Inspira Stabilizers are 20% off. I'll be needing some for all those Christmas presents I plan to sew and that harvest quilt I'm going to embroider. For more info on Inspira Stabilizers click here.
