We Learned a Lot!
Thanks to sewing expert Katrina Walker, the Highland Sewing Center's Husqvarna Viking Toolin' Around Two event was a success. Everyone went home inspired and full of tools and ideas to make sewing more fun and easy.
Katrina talked about all her favorite tools and the tips that she has picked up during her years of working in the garment and textile business. All eyes were on the big screen as the Interchangeable Dual Feed Foot was demonstrated. She dazzled us with her haute couture dress fashioned with prairie points. She demonstrated tips and tools to sew slippery fabrics like silks. And she showed us how to add special details to our sewing to make every garment special.
Thanks to Highland manager, Joan, lunch was delicious. And we spent the afternoon getting tips on embroidery, stabilizers, and sheep.
Katrina advised us to be sure that we set up our machines to sew the way we want to sew. Today's machines have many features that can be set up your way. She says "Don't let your sewing machine boss you around---you be the boss and set it up your way!" And when you buy a machine from us we'll give you a class to show you how.

Sewing Center News
As promised, sewing classes in Highland, Indiana resumed last week! Students were busy making baby bags for up and coming baby showers. Won't they be cute!
And we are finally getting started on the eagerly anticipated picnic quilt. This quilt is so much fun and can be done in time for summer picnic season. Come and learn some new applique techniques and have some fun.
Meantime, the new store with the bright and beautiful class room should be done soon.
In Merrillville, don't miss the Tea Pot Applique Quilt, designed and digitized by Jan Brown. Then there's the Stitcher's Garden! The blocks are beautiful and we're learning so much as we learn new feet and new ways of using our sewing machines to their full potential.
And soon to come to Merrillville is a class on making pin cushions out of Mason jars. I don't know...I can think of so many other uses for these jars too---I'm thinking Easter treats---what about you?
Hope to see you at a class at the sewing centers soon! Sew much fun!

This Week at the Sewing Centers
We really have some wonderful things planned at the Sewing Centers this week as we continue our Christmas in July sewing festivities. Here's what you can look forward to:
In Merrillville:
There's another Picnic Quilt class on Wednesday. I can't tell you enough about how wonderfully these blocks stitch out and how fun they are to sew. Just coming up with the fabric for the bottle caps is at once a challenge and such great fun. I also wanted some nice strawberry swirl ice cream for my ice cream cones. We are nearing the end of the embroidery portion and will be learning to sew the squares and blocks together. I can't wait to see how everyone's quilt looks!
Then on Thursday there is a Peppermint Table Runner Class---a quicker project, but so beautiful and simple. And while we're on the subject of Christmas, we have a wonderful Christmas quilting class coming up in the future; the Christmas Town Quilt by Anita Goodesigns. We'll be having a sample on display at the Sewing Center soon, as well as posting pictures here and on our Facebook sites. If you'd like to do this really great holiday quilt, call the Merrillville Sewing Center at 219-736-7748 to reserve one of the limited spots in this class.
In Highland:
In case you missed last season's Redwork Quilt or didn't have time to finish, we are revisiting this quick and easy quilt. I can verify to the ease and beauty of this quilt; I finished one under Joan's tutelage. They are so fun to make-- a bit of embroidery---the blocks go fast and then you can learn new skills---just a bit of flying geese on the edges, put it all together and have something really special on display in your home or as a gift for the holidays.
On Thursday we are making in the hoop Gift Card Holders. This is a fantastic idea to make a gift card more personal---they can even hang on your tree! Then on Friday we've got the second class for the Snowman applique quilt class. It's certainly not too late to start your quilt. Call Joan at 219-838-5433 and reserve your spot today!
We've got a lot planned to help you through the holidays. So be sure to check back here and on our website http://indianasews.com so you don't miss out!
